Reporting a Fault on the Highway

Kent County Council (KCC)  is responsible for the maintenance of roads and pavements not on private land. You can report non-urgent issues online to KCC directly using this link –https://www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/report-a-problem. Examples of the types of faults you can report include:

  • street lights not working
  • potholes
  • drainage
  • overgrown vegetation (including hedges and grass).

To report any emergency issues, for example a fallen tree blocking the road, please call KCC immediately on 03000 418181 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday or on 03000 419191 at all other times.

Road Closures

The Parish Council receives notifications from KCC of upcoming road closures and these will be posted below when received.

  • A28 Ashford Road – 40mph speed restriction from Chartham Cemetery to the junction with Hatch Lane from 18th June 2020 for up to 21 days. The restrictions have been introduced for the safety of the public and workforce whilst footway reconstruction works are to be carried out by KCC.
  • Denstead Lane, Chartham – scheduled to be closed from 01st September to 03rd September between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 between the junctions with Bigbury Road and A2 Dover Road. in the general vicinity of the level crossing. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching and preservation works are undertaken by KCC. The alternative route for any through traffic is via The Green, Parish Road, Bolts Hill, Shalmsford Street, A28 Ashford Road, Station Road and vice versa. This closure is necessary to enable Network Rail to carry out works to the level crossing.

    The alternative route for northbound traffic is via Howfield Lane, A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road and A2 Dover Road. The alternative route for southbound traffic is via A2 Boughton Bypass, Dunkirk westbound off-slip, Canterbury Road, A2 Boughton Bypass, Dover Road, Harbledown eastbound off-slip, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, Rheims Way, A28 Wincheap Green, Wincheap, Thannington Road, Ashford Road and Howfield Lane.

Highways Improvement Plan

KCC works closely with parish councils through the use of Highway Improvement Plans to establish highway related needs and aspirations for parishes. Highway Improvement Plans can be amended regularly should any items be raised so if any residents wish to suggest improvements, please contact the Parish Clerk who can put these suggestions to the Parish Council for consideration.
